Bob Dole, a former U.S. senator and World War II veteran, passed away on December 5th, 2021. He was 98 years old.

On February 28th, 2021 Bob Dole announced2 via Twitter, that he had stage 4 lung cancer, stating,
“Recently, I was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. My first treatment will being on Monday. While I certainly have some hurdles ahead, I also know that I joins millions of Americans who face significant health challenges on their own.”
"Bob Dole never forgot where he came from. He embodied the integrity, humor, compassion and unbounded work ethic of the wide open plains of his youth," the statement said. "He was a powerful voice for pragmatic conservatism, and it was that unique Kansan combination of attributes and values that made him such a giant of the Senate."
Bob Dole was a World War II veteran3, and during battle was shot in the shoulder, the shell hitting his spine.
"I lay face down in the dirt," Dole stated. "I could not see or move my arms. I thought they were missing."
He was transported to a medical hospital, where he was treated and shipped home to die. After years of recovery he regained mobility of his arms and legs.
In 1960, he was elected4 to the U.S. House of Representatives where he introduced The Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and the Age Discrimination Act, along with many other human rights bills.
In 1976, Bob Dole entered the U.S. Presidential election as Republican vice presidential nominee5, losing to Walter Mondale.
In 1996, Bob Dole ran for U.S. presidency, against Bill Clinton. Bob Dole lost the presidential election, giving Clinton another four years.

Overall, Bob Dole dedicated his life to America, giving our country 79 years of service. He was an American hero and his story will not be forgotten.
