Biden Administration to Restrict Flights From Eight African Countries
The Biden Administration has announced that it will shutdown international travel between eight African countries, including South Africa, walking back from their original announcement to reopen international travel after almost two years, just eighteen days ago on November 8th.
This announcement follows Israel, Japan, the European Union and the UK, who all have additionally “red flagged” the eight countries. Barring travel from South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, and Zimbabwe, is not enough to effectively stop the spread of the new potentially vaccine resistant B.1.1.529 coronavirus strain into other regions, and eventually to America. Traveling to another region of Africa, will allow an asymptomatic traveler direct access to infect America. The result? More mandates, state control, and less liberty in a nation founded on individual freedom, civil rights, and political and religious independence.
U.S. President Joe Biden announced1 in a Press Conference,
“As a precautionary measure until we have more information, I am ordering additional air travel restrictions from South Africa and seven other countries. These new restrictions will take effect on November 29. As we move forward, we will continue to be guided by what the science and my medical team advises.”
“[F]or the world community: the news about this new variant should make clearer than ever why this pandemic will not end until we have global vaccinations. The United States has already donated more vaccines to other countries than every other country combined. It is time for other countries to match America’s speed and generosity.” Biden continued,
“In addition, I call on the nations gathering next week for the World Trade Organization ministerial meeting to meet the U.S. challenge to waive intellectual property protections for COVID vaccines, so these vaccines can be manufactured globally.”
Conclusion
While there is still a lack of information surrounding coronavirus mutations, the stark truth is, there will continuously be new mutations of coronavirus that exist. Additionally, there will continuously be less invasive solutions to dealing with coronavirus mutations. Whether America’s lawmakers continue to seek historic and modern influence from socialist, communist, and authoritarian ideologies remains to be seen. Deserving freedom of choice, and having access to more than one option disguised as three different vaccines. To mandate, is to oppress, and while one might not see it now, the willingness to suspend the right to control one’s own life decisions quickly results in society looking toward an artificial higher power for answers, rather than looking into themselves, and finding their own motivations.
If restricting eight countries is enough to stop the spread of the B.1.1.529 strain, how did America—that restricted all international travel—become infected with the delta virus, which originated in India2?
